Bad Day at Black Rock

In 1945, a one-armed stranger steps off a train in the desert town of Black Rock, a place where nobody expects visitors and nobody wants him to stay. He says he is looking for a Japanese American named Komoko, but simple questions about where the man lives are met with lies, stares, and quiet threats. As the town’s sheriff hangs back and local bully Reno Smith, played by Robert Ryan, turns up the pressure, the visitor, played by Spencer Tracy, realizes the whole community is guarding the same secret. His search becomes a test of nerve in a town where fear, guilt, and violence have had time to settle in.
