Sally Hawkins’s Ginger is practical, working-class, and used to a world Jasmine has spent years looking down on, so their reunion is tense from the start. As Jasmine tries to assemble a new life, the present keeps giving way to memories of New York, her marriage to Alec Baldwin’s Hal, and the moneyed world she can’t stop clinging to. The film follows her through cramped rooms, awkward reinventions, and a steady slide between denial and panic.
