The Confession
DramaThriller139 min
In 1950s communist Czechoslovakia, a loyal party official is suddenly watched, seized, and imprisoned by the state he has spent his life serving. Yves Montand is the war veteran and government minister, held in isolation and pushed through relentless interrogation without being told what crime he’s supposed to have committed. At home, Simone Signoret’s wife is left to make sense of his disappearance as the regime builds a case designed not to uncover truth, but to extract a confession. Based on a true story from the era of Soviet bloc show trials, the film keeps its focus on one man’s bewilderment as political suspicion hardens into torture and imprisonment.
