Hour of the Wolf

DramaHorrorMystery90 min

On a remote German island, painter Johan Borg lives in self-imposed isolation with his younger pregnant wife, Alma (Liv Ullmann), as insomnia, visions, and repressed desires begin to erode his grip. Max von Sydow is Johan, a troubled artist whose diary and private sketches point to fears he can barely contain. When the couple accept an invitation to a nearby castle, they enter the orbit of unsettling aristocrats who seem to know far too much about him. Ingmar Bergman’s 1968 Swedish film moves through marriage, voyeurism, and dread as Johan’s breakdown blurs the line between nightmare and the supernatural.
