In Ville-d'Avray outside Paris, a veteran of the French Indochina War struggles to reenter ordinary life until he forms an unusual bond with a neglected orphan. Hardy Kruger is the emotionally damaged ex-soldier, while Patricia Gozzi is the young girl who becomes his companion. Their friendship begins in innocence, but the closeness between a wounded adult and a child unsettles friends and neighbors, turning a private refuge into something watched and judged.
