Christ Stopped at Eboli
Drama150 min
In fascist Italy in 1935, Carlo Levi is a painter and trained doctor sent into internal exile in a remote southern village near Eboli. Gian Maria Volonté’s Levi arrives as an isolated political dissident, cut off from the world he knows, and gradually becomes part of the rhythms of peasant life around him. As he treats the sick, paints, and observes a region neglected by the state, the film follows his uneasy place between outsider and neighbor, along with the beauty and hardship of the countryside.
