A hard-drinking office worker in love with a colleague watches his city tilt into chaos as people around him start turning into rhinoceroses. Gene Wilder is the rumpled outsider at the center of it, with Karen Black as the co-worker he can’t quite reach and Zero Mostel as his smug, condescending friend. Adapted from Eugène Ionesco’s stage play, the film begins with office chatter and uneasy romance before the bizarre transformation spreads through everyday life, leaving Wilder’s character stranded in a world that keeps accepting the impossible.
