Dante is a cheerful, sheltered school bus driver who thinks life has passed him by until a near collision introduces him to Maria, a glamorous stranger who invites him to her villa in Palermo. Roberto Benigni's Dante arrives smitten and oblivious to the trap around him: he happens to be the double of Maria's gangster husband, and that resemblance could solve several problems for dangerous people. Nicoletta Braschi gives Maria an alluring, unreadable calm as the story turns mistaken identity, mafia intrigue, and romance into an escalating farce.
