Green Book

ComedyDocumentaryDrama130 min

In 1962, Bronx bouncer Tony Lip is hired to drive pianist Dr. Don Shirley from Manhattan through the Deep South, where segregation shapes every stop on the tour. Viggo Mortensen is Tony, a talkative Italian American family man suddenly working far outside his usual world, while Mahershala Ali’s Shirley moves through concert halls and hostile back roads with equal reserve. As the pair travel from performance to performance, they rely on the Green Book, the guide that helped Black travelers find safe hotels, restaurants, and gas stations across the Jim Crow South.
