After years apart, Irena Gallier arrives in New Orleans to reconnect with her unsettling brother, Paul, and finds herself drawn to a black panther newly captured by the local zoo. Nastassja Kinski is Irena, a young woman whose growing attraction to zoo curator Oliver (John Heard) coincides with a family secret Paul refuses to leave buried. Malcolm McDowell gives Paul a possessive, volatile presence as the story ties Irena’s sexual awakening to animal violence, blood, and transformation.
