On the Western Front in December 1914, French, Scottish, and German troops face each other across the trenches, locked in a war that has already turned routine and brutal. As Christmas arrives, small gestures from one side to another begin to break the silence. What starts as songs in the night and cautious contact grows into a brief truce, with soldiers stepping out of cover, sharing food, and meeting the men they have been ordered to kill. That moment of peace brings its own danger. Once the guns fall quiet, officers and armies must reckon with what happens when enemies stop behaving like enemies, even for a single night.
