The Chorus

ComedyDrama97 min

In 1940s France, Gérard Jugnot is Clément Mathieu, an out-of-work musician who takes a job at a rigid boarding school for boys labeled difficult. Faced with constant punishment and a headmaster more interested in discipline than care, Mathieu starts a choir as a way to reach the students on their own terms. Among the voices is Jean-Baptiste Maunier’s Morhange, a gifted, defiant boy whose talent begins to stand out. Christophe Barratier’s film keeps its focus on daily life inside the dormitory and classroom, where music becomes a quiet counterweight to the school’s severity.
