Russian Ark
DramaFantasyMysteryWar99 min
An unseen narrator, seemingly a ghost, moves through St. Petersburg’s Winter Palace with Sergey Dreyden as a 19th-century French marquis at his side, passing from imperial chambers to vast ballrooms as scenes from different eras of Russian history unfold room by room. Filmed inside the Hermitage Museum in a single continuous take, the movie turns the palace into a living passageway between centuries, where courtiers, soldiers, and rulers appear and vanish in the same sweep. Mariya Kuznetsova is among the many figures encountered as the narrator and the marquis move through the palace, art, and memory together.
