Andrei Rublev
Drama206 min
Anatoliy Solonitsyn is Andrei Rublev, a 15th-century monk and icon painter moving through a Russia of monasteries, princes, and war. As Rublev witnesses famine, pagan ritual, and a brutal raid that draws him into bloodshed, his rising name as an artist collides with a vow of silence and a retreat from his work. With Nikolay Grinko among the travelers and clerics around him, the story unfolds in linked episodes of church building, torchlit ceremony, massacre, and the hard physical labor behind sacred art, including the casting of an enormous bell.
