Bringing Up Baby
ComedyRomance102 min
Paleontologist David Huxley is trying to secure a museum donation and the last bone for his brontosaurus skeleton when a chance meeting with heiress Susan Vance sends him into escalating chaos. Cary Grant’s flustered scientist gets swept into Susan’s orbit, and Susan Vance (Katharine Hepburn) turns every errand into a new complication. What starts with golf and a missing bone soon expands to a dog named George, a tame leopard called Baby, and one disaster after another pulling David farther from his careful plans. Directed by Howard Hawks, the 1938 film builds its farce around mounting misunderstandings, class friction, and Hepburn and Grant’s off-balance chemistry.
