Walter Burns, a scheming newspaper editor, sees one last chance to keep his star reporter from leaving journalism — and from remarrying. Cary Grant’s Walter is also the ex-husband of Hildy Johnson, and Rosalind Russell is Hildy, ready to quit the paper and head for a quieter life with her new fiancé. Walter reels her back in with a fresh scoop tied to an impending execution, dropping her into a press room crowded with rival reporters, political maneuvering, and a fugitive case that won’t stay contained. As talk of a reprieve and corruption swirls, Hildy is pulled between the train out of town and the story on Walter’s desk.
