Barry Lyndon

ActionAdventureDramaRomanceWar188 min

Redmond Barry, an ambitious Irish outsider, gambles, duels, deserts, and schemes his way through the upheaval of the 18th century, trying to trade a modest start for a title and a place among England's nobility. Ryan O'Neal is Barry, moving from rural Ireland to the battlefields of the Seven Years' War and into the rituals of aristocratic life. Marisa Berenson's wealthy widow becomes the crucial step in his social ascent. Stanley Kubrick frames that climb against card tables, military campaigns, and candlelit palaces that echo the look of 18th-century painting.
