Sentenced to community service at a remote Danish church, neo-Nazi Adam clashes with a priest whose optimism refuses to bend. Ulrich Thomsen is Adam, arriving at the parish expecting a short stay before returning to trouble, while Mads Mikkelsen's Ivan has turned the church into a refuge for other damaged men and treats even open hostility as something to be absorbed with good cheer. When Adam sarcastically says his goal is to bake an apple pie, Ivan takes him literally and puts him in charge of the church's prized apple tree, turning a simple task into a battle of will, faith, and sabotage.
