After industrialist Pierre Verdier murders his mistress Jeanne Ancelin by throwing her from a train, the courts let him walk. Jeanne’s husband Ancelin turns to revenge, stalking the man who escaped punishment and pushing the story into a clash between private vengeance and official justice. Lino Ventura and Franco Fabrizi lead the central confrontation, with Sandra Milo in the orbit of Verdier’s crime. From the train killing outward, the film follows a tightening pursuit through an urban French milieu where money, respectability, and anger keep colliding.
