In 1950s Algiers, a former petty criminal becomes a key organizer in the uprising against French colonial rule as the army moves in to crush the movement. Brahim Hadjadj is Ali La Pointe, working inside the Casbah as the National Liberation Front steps up bombings and underground attacks; across the barricades, Jean Martin’s Colonel Mathieu, a former Resistance fighter, arrives with paratroopers and orders to break the insurgency. Shot in stark black and white on the streets of Algiers, the film tracks both sides as surveillance, torture, and reprisals turn the city into a battleground.
