When a great white shark begins attacking beachgoers in the summer resort town of Amity, police chief Martin Brody has to protect the community as the threat grows offshore. Roy Scheider is Brody, a local authority figure out of his depth on the water, joined by marine biologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and the hard-edged shark hunter Quint, embodied by Robert Shaw. Steven Spielberg directs the 1975 story on land and at sea, with Lorraine Gary in Brody’s family circle and Murray Hamilton as the town mayor.
