Jean-Louis Trintignant is Georges, a retired music teacher in his eighties living with his wife, Anne (Emmanuelle Riva), in the quiet routine of a long marriage. One morning, Anne suffers a stroke, and the couple’s daily life contracts around medical appointments, caregiving, and the abrupt changes to her health. Their daughter (Isabelle Huppert), also a musician, lives abroad with her family, leaving Georges and Anne to manage the new reality largely within the walls of their home. The film stays close to the details of aging, illness, and the strain placed on a bond that has lasted for decades.
