The Artist

ComedyDramaRomance100 min

As talking pictures take over late-1920s Hollywood, silent-screen idol George Valentin sees his career wobble just as a young extra he once bumped into starts rising. Jean Dujardin is George, a movie star built for premieres and marquees; Bérénice Bejo's Peppy Miller catches the industry’s new energy and a sudden path upward. Their careers and relationship unfold against studio backlots, tuxedos, dance numbers, and the uneasy shift from silent cinema to sound, with the film borrowing the black-and-white look and storytelling rhythms of the era it recreates.
