The Pursuit of Happyness

Drama117 min

Will Smith is Chris Gardner, a San Francisco salesman in 1981 whose shot at a stockbroker internship arrives just as his life at home gives way. After Linda leaves — Thandiwe Newton in a brief but pivotal role — Chris is left to care for his young son alone. Jaden Smith's Christopher stays at his father's side through shelters, bus rides, and nights spent searching for somewhere to sleep while Chris fights to keep an unpaid place in a fiercely competitive training program. Inspired by Gardner's true story, the film keeps its focus on the daily pressure of money, housing, and parenthood.
