A Hollywood director is falling apart after losing his star and watching his career slide. Then he gets access to a computer program that can generate a flawless digital actress, and he introduces her to the world as Simone, a performer who does not actually exist. As Simone becomes a sensation, the lie grows harder to control. He has to fake interviews, appearances, and a private life while studio executives, reporters, and the people closest to him start pressing for access to the woman everyone wants to meet. Al Pacino plays the director as his invention turns into a celebrity bigger than he is, and the joke keeps circling back to how fame can be manufactured and believed.
