During an extreme Florida heatwave, a seedy lawyer begins an affair with a wealthy married woman, and the two start plotting the murder of her husband. William Hurt is the attorney, all swagger and bad judgment, opposite Kathleen Turner's cool, watchful femme fatale. Richard Crenna turns up as the powerful husband at the center of the scheme, with Ted Danson in the lawyer's orbit. Lawrence Kasdan reworks noir around sweat-soaked streets, dark rooms, and a relationship driven as much by calculation as desire.
