Fresh out of college and already adrift, Benjamin Braddock slips into an affair with a married family friend, only to become drawn to her daughter Elaine. Dustin Hoffman is Benjamin, uneasy and directionless, while Anne Bancroft’s Mrs. Robinson turns seduction into a contest of control. Katharine Ross brings a gentle uncertainty to Elaine, the young woman who complicates an arrangement that was already secret and unstable. Mike Nichols keeps the focus on Benjamin’s discomfort, building the comedy and tension through strained family visits, awkward conversations, and the widening gap between the future everyone imagines for him and the life he stumbles into.
