Sawdust and Tinsel
Drama93 min
A struggling circus rolls into town carrying old humiliations and fresh wounds. Its ringmaster, Albert, is worn down by debt, jealousy, and the public shame that follows his relationship with the younger performer Anne. When Albert tries to reclaim some dignity by visiting the wife he left behind, he only tangles himself further between the life he abandoned and the one already falling apart. Back at the circus, rivalries harden, Anne drifts toward the attention and promise of another man, and every attempt to assert control turns into another spectacle. Written and directed by Ingmar Bergman, the film traps its characters between desire, pride, and the cruelty of being watched.
