Enthusiasm

Documentary67 min

In the Donbas during the first Soviet Five Year Plan, miners, factory workers, farmers, marchers, and athletes become the subjects of Dziga Vertov’s documentary portrait of a region being remade by industrialization. Enthusiasm tracks anti-religious campaigns, propagandistic parades, and the push to accelerate production, moving between coal pits, machinery, fields, and public ritual. Vertov’s first sound film leans on an experimental audio track built from factory noise, engines, whistles, and other machine sounds, with spoken dialogue used sparingly.
