Bell' Antonio

ComedyDrama105 min

Marcello Mastroianni is Antonio Magnano, a handsome newlywed whose private struggle becomes impossible to hide when he is unable to consummate his marriage to Barbara Puglisi. Claudia Cardinale’s Barbara loves her husband, but after a year of otherwise happy marriage, Antonio’s impotence turns their union into a source of strain and humiliation. As his virility is questioned, the pressure falls on both spouses, with family scrutiny and social expectation closing in around a problem that should have remained intimate. Bolognini balances comedy with discomfort, keeping the focus on the couple caught inside the gossip and pride surrounding them.
