Blonde Venus
Drama93 min
Marlene Dietrich is Helen, a former German cabaret performer now living as an American wife and mother until her husband’s illness sends her back to the stage. Herbert Marshall is the ailing husband whose treatment she can’t afford, and Helen’s nightclub return as Blonde Venus brings money, notoriety, and the attention of a wealthy politician (Cary Grant). Josef von Sternberg frames the story between domestic strain and backstage glamour, with Dietrich moving from kitchen-table sacrifice to elaborate performance as Helen’s effort to hold her family together becomes harder to contain.
