Flesh and the Devil

DramaRomance112 min

After completing their military training, lifelong friends Leo and Ulrich return home expecting to pick up where they left off. Instead, a chance meeting at a railway station pulls Leo into a scandal and sends him away for three years. John Gilbert is Leo, whose fixation on Felicitas upends the bond at the center of the story; Greta Garbo’s Felicitas arrives with a cool, elusive presence that turns desire into betrayal, while Lars Hanson gives Ulrich the reserved steadiness of the friend left behind. When Leo finally returns, old loyalties and buried resentments are waiting for him.
