A year on in postwar Tokyo, struggling writer Chagawa enters the Akutagawa Prize competition, hoping a literary breakthrough can secure a better future for the boy in his care. At the same time, the Suzuki family's modest home is unsettled when they take in a new relative who looks down on their way of life on Third Street. Hidetaka Yoshioka and Shin'ichi Tsutsumi are among the ensemble as the story moves between Chagawa's search for recognition and the Suzukis' growing household strain.
