The Nutty Professor
ComedyDramaFamilyFantasyRomanceSci-Fi95 min
University genetics professor Dr. Sherman Klump is brilliant, gentle, and painfully self-conscious when new faculty member Carla Purty catches his eye. Eddie Murphy is Sherman — and, after one dose of his experimental fat-reducing serum, the slick, fast-talking Buddy Love — in a broad Jekyll-and-Hyde riff built around one man split between insecurity and swagger. Jada Pinkett Smith's Carla becomes the focus of Sherman's risky transformation, while Murphy also disappears into several members of the larger Klump family. The setup mixes 1990s campus life, romance, and sci-fi slapstick with a comic showcase built around Murphy's multiple roles.
