Buena Vista Social Club

Documentary105 min

American guitarist Ry Cooder travels to Havana to gather a group of veteran Cuban musicians for a recording session that reconnects them with songs and styles from an earlier era. Wim Wenders follows the players through rehearsals, street scenes, and performances in Amsterdam and at Carnegie Hall, building the film around the faces and histories behind the music. Singer Ibrahim Ferrer emerges as one of its central figures, alongside pianist Rubén González and other members of the Buena Vista Social Club, as bolero, son, cha-cha, and mambo move from intimate sessions to crowded stages.
