The Last Waltz

Documentary117 min

Martin Scorsese follows The Band through its advertised farewell concert, cutting between the 1976 Thanksgiving performance at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom and backstage interviews with the group. Robbie Robertson and Levon Helm are among the members speaking between songs, while guests including Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, and The Staple Singers join the Band onstage. The film moves from full-band numbers to one-off appearances and duets, keeping the concert itself and the musicians’ reflections in view at the same time.
