Livia, the wife of a high-ranking Fascist official, travels to Venice with a lawyer who is both her admirer and her husband’s spy, intending to meet the SS lieutenant with whom she is having a clandestine affair. Anna Galiena is Livia, moving through the trip in a rush of memory and desire, while Helmut Schultz (Gabriel Garko) remains the magnetic center of what she’s risking. As the story follows her toward the lagoon city, the film traces the affair’s erotic pull, its betrayal, and the political rot surrounding it in wartime Italy.
