Love on the Ground
ComedyDramaFantasyMysteryRomance176 min
Two actresses in a French theatre troupe accept an invitation to rehearse a new, unfinished play, only to discover that the script has room for just one female role. Jane Birkin and Geraldine Chaplin are the friends pulled into the project, while André Dussollier’s playwright-director keeps the rules of the production just out of reach. What begins as rehearsal in a secluded mansion turns stranger as private tensions, staged scenes, and half-finished text start folding into one another. Jacques Rivette builds the story around performance itself: who is watching, who is directing, and where the play ends.
