It Should Happen to You
ComedyDramaRomance86 min
Out of work and tired of being overlooked, Gladys Glover spends her savings on a Columbus Circle billboard bearing nothing but her name and face — and suddenly New York can’t stop talking about her. Judy Holliday is Gladys, chasing recognition with equal parts nerve and innocence, while filmmaker Pete Sheppard (Jack Lemmon) keeps crossing her path. When a wealthy advertiser, Evan Adams III, spots an opportunity in her sudden notoriety, Gladys’s homemade stunt spreads far beyond a single sign. What starts as one woman trying to be noticed becomes a wry look at publicity, ambition, and celebrity in 1950s Manhattan.
