After serving time in the United States on a narcotics charge, a young Frenchman is sent back to France and tries to begin again. Home offers little comfort: his mother is gone, his father is now a widower, and the two struggle to find any easy way back to each other. As he looks for work and a place in ordinary life, he falls for a young woman whose addiction pulls him toward the same damage he is trying to leave behind. The film follows that uneasy return, where family distance, loneliness, and love keep turning a fresh start into another test.
