On the bleak outskirts of Paris, Patrick Dewaere is Franck, a door-to-door salesman whose marriage is falling apart when a routine collection call brings him to Mona, a teenage girl living under the thumb of her wealthy aunt. Marie Trintignant’s Mona quickly becomes the center of Franck’s fixation just as money problems, accusations of embezzlement, and his collapsing home life start closing in. What begins as a chance encounter turns into a warped alliance, with Franck chasing escape through increasingly reckless schemes as his sense of reality starts to fray.
