In 1997 Rio de Janeiro, BOPE captain Roberto Nascimento is ordered to secure a favela ahead of the pope’s visit while searching for someone to take his place in the unit. Wagner Moura’s Nascimento leads the operation against armed drug traffickers as two young officers, Matias (André Ramiro) and Neto (Caio Junqueira), enter his orbit. The story moves through the machinery of special-operations policing, the pressure on officers inside and outside the battalion, and the violence surrounding Rio’s favelas.
