City of God
CrimeDrama130 min
In 1970s Rio de Janeiro, life in the Cidade de Deus favela splits along two paths for a pair of boys coming of age amid rising street violence. Alexandre Rodrigues is Rocket, a watchful teenager with a camera and a way of staying at the edges of the chaos, while Leandro Firmino’s Zé Pequeno pushes deeper into the drug trade and its shifting gang loyalties. As the neighborhood changes from petty crime to organized control, Rocket’s photographs become a record of the people, power struggles, and everyday danger closing in around him.
