The Empty Canvas

Drama105 min

An aspiring young painter leaves his wealthy, possessive mother to chase a freer life in bohemian Rome, only to find that love complicates his break from home. Horst Buchholz is the restless artist at the center, drawn to a model who wants an uncommitted relationship; Catherine Spaak gives her a cool, elusive presence. Bette Davis is the mother still looming over his choices, and when his new companion is brought into that world, class, dependence, and desire start pressing against each other.
