Julian Dennison is Ricky Baker, a defiant city kid sent to a foster home in the New Zealand countryside, where a sudden turn leaves him fleeing into the bush with Sam Neill’s cantankerous Uncle Hec. What starts as a runaway story quickly grows into a national manhunt, with the pair scrambling across rough terrain, wild boar country, and one misunderstanding after another. Taika Waititi keeps the focus on Ricky and Hec’s clash of tempers as foster son and reluctant guardian are pushed to rely on each other.
