On a snowbound Utah frontier, Jean-Louis Trintignant is Silence, a mute gunslinger who steps in when a band of hunted outlaws and a young widow come under siege from bounty killers. Klaus Kinski's Loco leads the hunters, turning self-defense laws and a corrupt local order into tools for profit. As the widow pushes for revenge and the outlaws hide in the mountains, Silence becomes the one man willing to stand between them and a massacre. The usual sun-baked western landscape gives way to blinding snow, cramped saloons, and a frontier ruled by greed.
