A Ming partisan fleeing Manchu forces takes cover in a pawnshop, where merchant and kung fu enthusiast Li Chen-chau quietly begins gathering local martial masters to keep him alive. When a business rival exposes the hiding place, Manchu official Liang turns the pursuit into a wider clash, drawing in other fighters — including Beggar Su — through pressure and deception. Li Wang and Tien-Hsiang Lung are among the faces in the film’s crowded martial-arts ensemble, as the conflict moves from back-room protection to open combat and pushes a loose circle of masters toward the alliance behind the title.
