Scholar Wei Fung is pressed into service by the Manchu emperor and sent to infiltrate a household of Ming loyalists, but the mission starts to unravel when he falls for the clan leader’s granddaughter. David Chiang is Wei Fung, a court scholar caught between imperial orders and the life he finds inside the rebel clan, while Cecilia Wong is the young woman who complicates his loyalties. As he moves deeper into the family he was meant to betray, the palace makes the cost of failure clear: return unsuccessful, and his own relatives will face the consequences.
