The Train
ActionAdventureThrillerWar133 min
As Allied forces close in on Paris in August 1944, a French railway worker is drawn into a resistance plan to stop a train loaded with France’s stolen masterpieces from reaching Germany. Burt Lancaster is Labiche, pressed into keeping the operation moving on paper while quietly finding ways to delay it on the tracks. Across from him, Paul Scofield’s Colonel von Waldheim treats the paintings as a prize worth saving even as the German retreat collapses around him. The story turns on rail yards, switching stations, sabotage, and the uneasy question of how far to go to save art in the middle of war.
