Knight of Cups
DramaFantasyRomance118 min
Rick, a successful Los Angeles screenwriter, moves through parties, luxury and fleeting romances while trying to shake a deep sense of emptiness. Christian Bale is Rick, drifting through Hollywood and Las Vegas in Terrence Malick’s fragmentary portrait of a man pulled between desire, memory and spiritual restlessness. Along the way he reconnects with his ex-wife Nancy (Cate Blanchett) and becomes involved with the married Elizabeth, played by Natalie Portman. The city’s glamour and excess become both backdrop and distraction as each encounter pushes Rick to confront where his life is headed.
